Put a cascading control panel on your Start menu

updated: 03/03/01
07/08/98

Here's how to do it:

This tweak was so popular, Microsoft incorporated it into Windows 2000. I not taking credit for coming up with it, I'm just saying...

To place a cascading control-panel on your start menu:

Windows 2000:
Go to Start | Settings | Taskbar & Start Menu.
Click on the Advanced tab, in the box below, check the box named expand control panel.

Windows 95/98:
Go to: C:\windows\Start Menu

Windows NT:
go to: C:\winnt\Profiles\Username\Start Menu

Create a folder. (File | New | Folder)

Name it:

Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

 *
Note: the period between panel and also the { curly brakets }

That's all there is to it.

*NOTE: The Windows 2000 control panel will appear inside "Settings". If you run Windows 2000 and would like the control panel to appear like the picture on the right, just follow the instructions for Windows NT above.

You can also put other special folders (like Printers) on the start menu. Just get the CLSID number for that folder and follow the procedure above.
