Assigning sounds to your incoming mail

05/06/00

Jealous of all your (l4m3r) aol friends and their "You got mail!" (sic)
Part of customizing your computer is making your incoming email play an amusing (read obnoxious) sound. You could even get the "You got mail" sound and be l4m3!

To Set which sound plays when you receive email:

This is a little too simple, but I thought I should put it up for kicks:

1. Download the good email sound, like this one: David Letterman congratulating you...

letterman.wav (115 K wav-format)
letterman.zip (75K zip-compressed wav-file)

click either of the above links, if promtped choose Save and place it somewhere on your hard-drive. Remember where you put it.

2. Go to control panel | sounds and select New Mail Notification in the Events box.

3. Click the Browse button and locate the sound file you would like to use.

It will then show up in the Name box:

sound dialog

You can play the sound by clicking the (play) button.

This window: control panel | sounds is where you can set your own sounds to play for many windows events.
