Year 2000 guide: Patch up Windows

Get your PC ready for the year 2000:

Operating System

What to do:

Windows 98 users: there is a minor patch for you. Read about it here: To download it: Microsoft really wants you to use Windows 98's "Windows Update" 'feature' - so that's how you do that.

Windows 95 users: Boy are you in a world of hurt. I'm just pullin' your leg: get the file:

win95y2k.exe: Information page with a link to download it.

w95y2k.txt: view the readme text file for win95y2k.exe

dunwinsky2k: The DUN (Dial Up Networking) version 1.3 fix apparently contains some y2k stuff. If you run w95 you should have it anyway:

w95filup.exe: There is also a minor issue with Windows 95's file manager and y2k, download the fix here: ftp://ftp.pcworld.com/pub/system/system_tuneup/w95filup.exe

If you're running Windows95 and you haven't patched the crap out of it already, you should probably do so: Head to the Microsoft Windows 95 download page and get what you need

Windows NT 4.0 server and workstation users simply have to upgrade to service pack 5. If you do not want to upgrade to sp5, you can install sp4 and some hot-fixes: see the Microsoft Windows NT download page:
